Ted Hankla is a (latent) lifelong student of Artistic Media.
He began as a prodigy in Woodworking and was involved in early public-school art programs that exposed him to the basic art types.
At 14 he was a Blue Ribbon winner for Woodwork at the California State Fair in Sacramento.
Throughout high school he continued as a letterman of the Art Department - where he was first exposed to Photography and Media Design. He was a designer of stage signage, murals, providing art for public display, commemorative metalworks, printing of cermonial programs, wedding photography and three years of Yearbook Design that culminated with an award for "Top-ten of U.S. Yearbooks for High Schools" in 1978.
Although Media was his focus during a young age - Ted was uninterested in a career in Publishing, Graphics or Design Engineering and departed from formal schooling for the next 15 years.
It was the beauty of Northern California that eventually led the artist back to his pursuits through photography - when personal computers allowed for artists to capture, reshape and repair their personally digitized files into a Total Design: Start-to-finish process.
Using a laptop and Adobe Photoshop Elements, Ted creates his unique print "Assemblages" into the visually striking works that he displays at the Showcase Gallery today.
His chessboard design -"Wine Light" was awarded Blue Ribbon for "Original / Professional - Digital Media Art" at The 2007 Sonoma County Harvest Fair. He is an avid outdoorsman and advocate for the preservation of our county's heritage of communal respect for artistic expression.
Ted characterizes his artistic development not as Full Time - but as lifelong.
Artists Statement
Digital Design
is the manipulation of product information at the cellular level.
It uses the power of computation to rearrange the textures,
color tones, contrasts and impact of what we see.
Digital Art is nothing short of a culmination of artistic decisions
that shape the information of imagery on the canvas -
A blending of the raw into the refined.
